Difference between version upgrade and migration¶
Version upgrade¶
A version upgrade involves changing the version of the same product;
The transition must be made from a supported version to the “General Availability” (GA) version.
Migration¶
A migration involves a product change;
It can also sometimes correspond to an upgrade to a new major version when there is a break in experience (a significant change in a product that requires a longer customer validation cycle than the usual validation cycle).
Why keep an environment up to date?¶
It is recommended to upgrade regularly for the following reasons:
- To stay on a supported product;
- Control support costs (avoid support extension*);
- To benefit more quickly from new features and innovations;
- Greater responsiveness for Systancia teams in resolving product incidents encountered;
- To maintain the product in safe conditions.
