Difference between version upgrade and migration

Version upgrade

A version upgrade involves changing the version of the same product;

The transition must be made from a supported version to the “General Availability” (GA) version.

Migration

A migration involves a product change;

It can also sometimes correspond to an upgrade to a new major version when there is a break in experience (a significant change in a product that requires a longer customer validation cycle than the usual validation cycle).

Why keep an environment up to date?

It is recommended to upgrade regularly for the following reasons:

  • To stay on a supported product;
  • Control support costs (avoid support extension*);
  • To benefit more quickly from new features and innovations;
  • Greater responsiveness for Systancia teams in resolving product incidents encountered;
  • To maintain the product in safe conditions.
